I was very unlucky to miss the Haenyeo show during a tour I booked. Luckily for me my tour guide connected me with Angella. She was amazing, she responded super fast and helped me organize a private visit to meet the Haenyeo. This was definitely the highlight of my trip. We had an amazing time with Angella and the Ding Dong Tour team. We wanted to experience the haenyo life after watching When Life Gives You Tangerines and found this tour that was perfect to give us an up close experience! Angella and her sister were super friendly and everything was so well organized! They had such enlightening questions prepared and our haenyo was really animated in giving us some insight into her life and background. Angella’s own grandmother was a haenyo so you could tell she really cares about the community and is very knowledgeable herself.

They even brought freshly caught conches to cook on an open flame for us to eat.

At the end, they had a fun “test” to see how good we would be as a haenyo such as holding our breath, carrying weights in a fishing net, etc. Very interactive tour and well worth the money to support the haenyo community. It also worked out that there were a few haenyos rehearsing a song and dance performance so we got to observe that as well. I highly recommend Angella and her team for any tour guide needs you have on Jeju!
